Disappointment – A feeling I’m quite used to I must say. That’s how I feel at the moment and I definitely have the right to feel that way. Two chances was all Arsenal and van Persie needed to win this game. Liverpool played well for 98 minutes (8 minutes of stoppage time) but as usual we couldn’t get the ball in the net.
In the first half we started well with a high tempo and a lot of pressure on the Arsenal players. We didn’t let them pass the ball around like they wanted and because of that Arsenal didn’t get a lot of chances. Liverpool on the other hand had chances all the time because of all the good crosses, good runs and the quality passing.
After around twenty minutes Liverpool got a penalty because of a tackle on Suarez by Szczesny. Kuyt was the man who stepped up to take the penalty. He shot the ball and Szczesny made a good save. The ball went back to Kuyt but he didn’t get a good hit and Szczesny saved again.
In the 23rd minute Henderson made a good cross into the penalty area. Not only Liverpool players were there but also Koscielny, and he was the one who put the ball in the net. Liverpool was in the lead and deserved to be so.
The whole team kept playing well. All of them were good in the defensive and because of the pressure they put on the Arsenal players we always got the ball back quickly. Spearing played really well and controlled the midfield area so that Arsenal couldn’t get their passing to work.
After a counterattack the 31st minute Arsenal equalized. Sagna made a good cross into the penalty area and there was Mr van Persie to put the ball in the net. It was one of very few chances Arsenal had in the game, but it was all the brilliant Dutch striker needed.
The rest of the first half was all about Liverpool. We had chance after chance but we couldn’t score. The last thing that happened before the halftime whistle was that either Kuyt or Suarez hit the post. I’m starting to get a little tired of that now…
In the beginning of the second half Arteta had to be carried of the pitch on a stretcher and he was replaced by Diaby. Arsenal started to have a bit more possession and they were allowed to pass the ball around a bit more than in the first half. Nothing very interesting happened for a while, Liverpool had the best chances but nothing really serious. Arsenal made some changes with Gervinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain coming on for Benayoun and Diaby.
Liverpool was the better team during the second half too and they had some good chances in the end of the game but didn’t get the ball in. Bellamy and Carroll came on for Downing and Spearing as a last attempt to win the game.
We didn’t win the game, instead it was Arsenal who ended up as the winning team. It all came to its end in the 93rd minute when van Persie scored his second goal of the day. It felt like shit. After having played as well as we did, we really deserved to win. But that’s football, nothing is fair. I’m starting to learn that now.
