Different Perspectives

For as long as I have watched football I have hated Joey Barton, but now when I take the time to look at it from another perspective I realise that he’s not that bad. He is an honest person with strong opinions, and he has done some bad things, but I think he has a good heart.

Joseph Anthony Barton was born in Huyton, Liverpool and he’s the oldest of four brothers. His parents separated when he was 14 years old and after that he lived with his dad at his grandmother’s house. Joey’s brother Michael was sentenced to life imprisonment after he was involved in a racially motivated murder in 2005.

Joey himself has had some troubles with the law too, but nothing as serious as his brother. In May 2005 he broke a person’s leg while he was driving around in the Liverpool city centre. In March 2007 he was arrested for the suspicion of assault and criminal damage after an alleged argument with a taxi driver, but he was cleared of that charge in May 2008. Joey spent 77 days in prison in 2008 after an incident outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Liverpool.

Joey has done some good things too. He’s involved in a charity set up to support people who have addiction problems and no financial support, he is part of a campaign designed to keep children out of trouble, and he has also taken part in a celebrity cricket match for charity to help fund a new children’s rehabilitation unit at a hospital in Manchester.

Other good things that he has done are things like signing the e-petition about justice for Kevin Williams who died at Hillsborough at the age of 15, and he also passed it on to all his followers on twitter so that they could sign it too.

It’s so easy to judge people but you seldom see the whole picture and look at it from different angles. I only saw the bad things he has done and the negative headlines and texts about him and that made me think that he was nothing more than an idiot, but now when I read his tweets and hear him speak I realise that he is quite intelligent.

Some days ago he wrote on twitter that he was going to a meeting for anonymous alcoholics and that it’s nothing wrong about needing the help from other people, that it’s actually the exact opposite, and he also wrote that people don’t have to struggle through life alone. Those words prove that he is a smart man and quite a deep thinker.

Joey Barton is not the only one I have had preconceptions about, actually I have had it about a lot of people just like I think everybody have. I dislike a lot of football players because they play for one of Liverpool’s biggest rivals or because I have read something about them that give me a picture of them, but often I just take the words in without thinking about the sources and that can give me a picture which doesn’t conform to reality. I get more and more critical in my reading which makes me question many things and I also compare different texts to each other to see if they say the same things, fearfully often they don’t.

Bolton 3-1 Liverpool

Liverpool came to Reebok Stadium with an offensive line-up, but Bolton got the first goal after just four minutes. The Liverpool defense played really bad and no one stepped up to do the job, so Mark Davies could score the goal. It was a really bad start for Liverpool and a really good one for Bolton.

Both teams played well and offensively so the game was very open with lots of counter attacks and high speed on the sides. Bellamy made good runs for Liverpool and Andy Carroll actually succeeded to give him some good crosses. Maxi Rodriguez also played quite well on the left side and also made some good runs and got some good crosses, though he was a bit invisible in big parts of the game.

Steven Gerrard played in an offensive position behind Andy Carroll and that is the position I think he should always play in. He has a great shot and the attacking players need the quality crosses and passes that he can give.

Bolton got the second goal too and the scorer was Reo-Coker. That happened in the 29th minute. Liverpool didn’t defend very badly, but it wasn’t good defending either and they did too little to stop Bolton from scoring.

The teams were quite equal in possession, but Bolton looked far more dangerous when they got the ball and they played better overall both defensively and offensively. This game Liverpool really were in need of a good defensive midfielder like Lucas who could help the back line, because they really didn't play as good as usual.

In the 37th minute Bellamy got a great cross from Carroll and he managed to get the ball in the net. That gave some sense of hope to the team and it looked a bit better for a little while.

The last thing that happened in the first half was that Bolton got a free kick in a really dangerous position, but Reina made a good save. If the ball had gone in it would really have felt like the game was over.

As the second half started Bolton looked even better than in the first half and they got an early goal in the 50th minute. It was a really hard shot by Steinsson that went straight into the left bottom corner. Reina had no chance to save it and Bolton led by three goals to one.

Not much of interest happened after that and in the 64th minute Liverpool made a double change as Kuyt and Downing came on for Maxi and Adam. The team didn't play much better after that and it felt like Bolton was closer to scoring a fourth goal than Liverpool was to score their second.

Agger shot the ball hard into the crossbar from long distance, but not much more happened and the game ended in a 3-1 win for Bolton who played really well. They owned the game from the beginning till the end.

It was a shit game from a Liverpool-fan point of view and I’m so tired of losing to bottom half teams. We had a great chance to move up the table and get closer to the fourth place that we want to reach so badly, but we didn’t take the chance. The only Liverpool player who played well was Bellamy and thas is just not enough. I really think that we need to buy some good players now to have any chance at all to reach our goals.

Kenny's words after the game: "Some of those players won't be in Red shirts much longer if they carry on playing that way. It was disrespectful." I can't do anything else than to agree with him.

Liverpool-Stoke Match Report

Every minute of the match was dominated by Liverpool, both when it comes to possession and when it comes to goal chances. But they didn’t play good enough and Stoke played very well defensively. Liverpool had good movement and made good runs, but Kuyt was the only one in the penalty area and the rest of the players just stayed outside it. Downing and Henderson didn’t play well at all in their positions. As right winger Liverpool had Glen Johnson and I think that he played quite well, but he could have been more offensive and daring.

Steven Gerrard was all over the pitch like usual, and I think he played well, but he is such a good striker that I think he should play higher up and not in the defensive midfield like he did in the first half of the game. I think that the other players put too much responsibility on him instead of trying to do something on their own. Gerrard’s crosses were pure class like always, but Liverpool didn’t have enough people in the penalty area to make use of that.

José Enrique played very well on the left and he did some good runs, passes and tackles. I think that he always plays well and it’s not often he makes any mistakes.

Kuyt was alone, very alone in front of the goal, but he moved well and he looked like he knew what he was doing, but he needed help up there. Another problem was the lack of unexpected moves that Suarez always give, so the Stoke players had no problem to control the opponents.

Stoke just had one real chance on goal in the first half and they focused completely on the defending which they did really well. If they got the ball they kicked it as far away as possible and then went back to keep defending when the Liverpool players came in a new wave.

Nothing really dangerous happened in the first half and in the beginning of the second half Stoke looked just a little more offensive. Both teams made some changes, Carroll came on for Downing, Whitehead came on for Palacios and about ten minutes later Bellamy came on for Henderson and Wilkinson on for Woodgate. The atmosphere got better and the audience started singing and making themselves heard and with that the game became a bit faster and more open. Liverpool got many corners, but the big Stoke players didn’t have much trouble to win the nick duels.

Before the end of the game Stoke made another change when Fuller came on for Etherington. After four minutes of stoppage time the game came to its end without any goals.

Over all Stoke played well defensively and got what they came for and Liverpool played bad attacking football. Liverpool needs a good striker who can make use of all the chances the other players create, and the other players need to get into the box a lot more than they do and they also need to get more precise and sharp when it comes to making crosses, passes or shoot on goal.

A frustrated Dirk Kuyt.

Liverpool-Stoke Preview

In just a few minutes Liverpool is going to take on Stoke home at Anfield. This game last season ended in a 2-0 win for the reds after goals by Raul Meireles and the debuting Luis Suarez.

Liverpool haven’t lost a game at Anfield this season, but they have been struggling to get the goals and for that reason many teams from the bottom half of the league table have been able to get a point with them home. They have had a hard time to score over all so far this season, but they recently scored three goals against Newcastle and five against Oldham.

In the last meeting between the two clubs Stoke won by one goal to nil after a penalty kick by John Walters.

Liverpool will have to be focused and play good defensively. Especially when Stoke gets set pieces, because the Stoke players are big guys and they are really good with their heads. I guess Stoke will play with lots of long balls, but I don't think Liverpool will do that since they don't have Carroll on the pitch. I think they will focus on the passing with Steven Gerrard back in the middle.

The game is Kenny Dalglish’s 50:th game as Liverpool coach since he took the job almost exactly one year ago. And if the team scores four goals it will be the 500:th goal under Kenny rule in total.

The Liverpool line up today is: Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Carragher, Coates, Enrique, Henderson, Gerrard, Adam, Downing, Kuyt

The Liverpool bench: Aurelio, Carroll, Doni, Shelvey, Kelly, Flanagan, Bellamy

The Stoke line up: Sörensen, Woodgate, Huth, Shawcross, Wilson, Delap, Palacios, Whelan, Etherington, Walters, Crouch

The Stoke bench: Begovic, Fuller, Pennant, Jones, Wilko, Deano

I Don't Know What To Write

I really want to write an article about something (that has to do with football) but I don't know what. I feel like I have the opportunity now to get my texts published and I get a bit stressed because I write to little (acording to me). I want to improve my writing and get experience and now I have many platforms to do so, the problem is that I can't figure out what to write about. I don't feel ready do write a match report, because I don't think that I could do it good enough (I always compare myself to British people and their writing even though I know I shouldn't). I can do it here on the blog of course, it's my own, but I want to write something that is good enough to publish.

Another problem is that I know how I want to write things, but I'm struggling when it comes to getting it down on a paper. I guess that is a common problem, but I love writing so I want to find a way to express my thoughts like they are in my head. Every word I write makes me a bit more experienced but it's not often I feel that I can just sit down, take it easy and write for a few hours, and to write a good text I need to feel inspired and focused. I love moments like this when I can stay up all night if I want to, and mostly when I get inspiration and "kicks" it is on Friday nights. I don't get that inspired very often, so when I do, I don't want to waste it.

The picture is taken and edited by me.

HAHAHAHA

I just watched the Newcastle-Manchester United game and I loved it. Especially Jones's own goal, it made me laugh really high. Anyway, Newcastle won the game by three goals to nil and they played really good. Demba Ba scored the first goal and the second one was a really good free-kick from Cabaye. United played bad and they looked frustrated and nothing really worked. I just loved the look on Fergies face when Jones scored that own goal. He just headed the ball into the net like he wanted to do it. It's been a great evening but now I have to get some sleep. See ya!

School Work

Today I realized that I have a lot of homework to do before the school start on Monday. I have a home test in drama, a work in history that I might have to present on Monday and so on. The drama test is impossible and I don't know what to do with it. There are questions like "Describe the word drama pedagogy" and "mention as many important people in drama pedagogy as you can and include as many facts as possible"... I have no idea what to write, not even Wikipedia has the answers.

The history work is quite interesting I think. It's about football hooliganism both now and in the 70s and 80s. I have read the book Football Factory and I have seen the film. I have also watched Green Street Hooligans 1 and 2, Rise of the Footsoldier and the programme "the real football factories" a few times. I think it's an interesting subject and I'm doing the work together with my friend and classmate Josefin who I believe think the same as I about this. I guess we will talk about Great Britain and Argentina mostly but we will try to take examples from all around the world. I don't think that our teacher or any of our classmates know anything about this, but I hope they will find it interesting.

It's a beautiful day by the way
